The César Manrique Foundation (FCM) is organizing a workshop entitled Wind development in the context of the eco-social crisis: characteristics, problems and challenges in an uncertain horizon, which will be taught by Rosa María Regueiro, professor of Applied Economics at the University of Santiago de Compostela, specialized in the field of energy economics.

The activity will take place next Thursday, June 20, between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., in the José Saramago room of La Plazuela in Arrecife. This workshop aims to analyze contemporary wind development from a social, economic and environmental perspective.

First, attention will be focused on the economic and energy impact of the wind development model used in Spain, which, compared to other countries, is far from being a comprehensive development model that considers all the agents involved.

According to Regueiro, this fact justifies the lack of social acceptance by citizens, who are not allowed to have a direct participation in the process. In this sense, it is worth asking whether the model will change or whether the concentration of benefits in a small group of investment funds will continue to be allowed. In addition, there are wind power promotions that, due to their location, call into question environmental respect for the environment, aggravating the situation.

With these structural problems still unresolved, an uncertain future opens up, in which the European Union's commitment to blue and green economies seems to play a leading role. The proposal for offshore wind development for Spain and its possible impact on the fishing sector are not without controversy. At the same time, the question arises as to whether there will be sufficient materials for the installation of new wind farms, since some critical elements for their operation have already shown signs of scarcity.

Those interested in attending the workshop, which has a limited number of places, must register by calling 928 843 138 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. The registration period opens on Friday, June 14 and closes on Tuesday, June 18 or when the capacity is full. Places will be awarded in strict order of registration.
