The dismissed secretary of the Arrecife City Council had reported the theft of documents in the Consistory

The secretary of the Arrecife City Council, Asenet Padrón, who [this Monday has been dismissed from her position,->65022] had reported last January 3 the alleged theft of documents from the Consistory. Padrón filed this complaint with the Local Police of the municipality, after verifying that one of the cabinets of the City Council Secretariat, where different files were kept, had been forced.

The events occurred during the last weekend of the year, between December 30 and January 2. Sources close to the Local Police have confirmed to La Voz that the complaint was forwarded to the Arrecife Courts.

The alleged theft of documents coincides in time with [the new investigation opened by the Prosecutor's Office for alleged irregular invoices and contracts ->64507] in the Arrecife City Council between 2008 and 2011. Two days before the weekend in which a lock was allegedly forced in the Secretariat of the Consistory, on December 28, the Prosecutor's Office had sent a letter to the City Council requesting documentation.

In addition, within that investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office, both Asenet Padrón herself and other Arrecife officials were summoned to testify as witnesses. Specifically, the former secretary of Arrecife spent several hours answering questions from the prosecutor, about the procedures followed by political and technical officials in those files.

"It has nothing to do with it"

After learning of the dismissal of Asenet Padrón, who will have to be transferred to another department of the City Council, sources from the government group have assured La Voz that this decision "has nothing to do" with what the official may have declared in the Prosecutor's Office.

Asenet Padrón has served as secretary of the Arrecife City Council since 2005, when she replaced Felipe Fernández Camero in the position, who was removed by the Secretary of State for Territorial Organization, due to the very serious lack of incompatibility.
