The Investigating Court Number 5 requested 22,000 new folios from the Arrecife City Council related to the Unión case

The mayor of Arrecife revealed this Monday that the Courts have requested 22,000 new folios from the City Council, related to the "Unión" case. This judicial request was made between July 28 and September 15, according to Manolo Fajardo Feo in a press conference.

Precisely this work, according to the mayor, has been the main reason why there have been delays in the preparation of tenders, since the technicians were dedicated to attending to these judicial requirements, from the Court of First Instance Number 5 of Arrecife, which is investigating this case.

The investigation of the "Unión" case began in 2008, with the first complaint from the then secretary general of the PSOE, Carlos Espino, related to the alleged bribe that was offered to him in exchange for unblocking the urbanization of the Costa Roja plot, in Playa Blanca. This proposal reached Carlos Espino through Fernando Becerra, on behalf of the businessman Luis Lleó.

Later, a second complaint was added to the case, presented by José Antonio Castellano. As evidenced by the conversations recorded by the UCO as a result of that complaint, and the confessions of some of the accused, the now former councilors of Arrecife José Miguel Rodríguez and Ubaldo Becerra asked Castellano for a commission in exchange for the City Council making effective the payment of a debt it had with his company. But in addition, Matías Curbelo participated as an intermediary in the "negotiations" and, behind the entire operation, Dimas Martín was supposedly behind it.

The judge who was then investigating the case, César Romero Pamparacuatro, ordered telephone tapping, which reached other businessmen, public officials, PIL militants and municipal workers. Operation "Unión" broke out on May 25, 2009, with the registration of the Arrecife City Council and the Technical Office by agents of the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard.

Three and a half years later, the case is still in the investigation phase and has just faced its third change of judge.
