Construction work on the Playa Blanca Health Center begins on Saturday with the demolition of a module

The Lanzarote Health Area Directorate has reported that the construction works of the new Playa Blanca Health Center will begin on Saturday, December 8, with the demolition of a module or structure of the old building, and requests workers and users for maximum understanding for the inconvenience that may be caused during these works, and that the SCS technicians will try to minimize as much as possible.

The works will be carried out in two phases, the first one starts now with the demolition works. The building will consist of 2 modules of 2 floors interconnected, which would allow the work to be carried out in these 2 phases and thus maintain most of the healthcare activity in the current building during the first phase of the construction process. The investment of the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands for this project amounts to 982,870 euros.

The current building located in Playa Blanca intended for the Health Center is about 12 years old, but despite being a fairly recent building, it has begun to be insufficient for healthcare needs, a circumstance that has accelerated as a result of the continuous population increase in the area.

The Functional Plan approved by the General Directorate of Healthcare Programs of the Government of the Canary Islands establishes the need to provide the area with a building of about 1,000 square meters with an Admission and Administration Area, a Pediatrics Area with 2 Offices and its own Waiting Room and Lactation Room, as well as an Adult Care Area with 10 Offices and Waiting Rooms with public toilets, a Women's Care Area and an Emergency Area, in addition to its own support facilities: a specific Area for staff with changing rooms and toilets, a living room, a meeting room-library and warehouses.

Yaiza Basic Health Zone

The new health center is located in the Yaiza Basic Health Zone, which includes the population entities of Las Breñas, Femes, El Golfo, Playa Blanca, Uga, Yaiza, Las Casitas, La Hoya, Playa Quemada, Cortijo Viejo, La Degollada, La Geria, Maciot and Puerto Calero.

The infrastructure of the ZBS is composed of the Playa Blanca Health Center, formerly Playa Blanca Local Clinic, a Local Clinic, formerly Yaiza Health Center, and the Uga Local Clinic, in operation although not included in the current Health Map.

The health cards attached to the Playa Blanca health center are currently 9,730. Regarding the healthcare activity of the entire ZBS during 2006, it should be noted that 34,829 Family Medicine consultations, 6,900 Pediatrics consultations and 16,000 Nursing consultations were attended in that year.
