The company that renovated José Francisco Reyes' house billed half a million euros in five municipal works in two years

The company Construcciones Isla de Lobos billed almost half a million euros in two years to the Yaiza City Council in the late 90s, when José Francisco Reyes was mayor. That same company was in charge of renovating a house of the former mayor in Puerto del Carmen, which cost 60,000 euros and, according to the administrator José Carmelo González Clavijo, has not been paid.

These data appear in a report from the Economic and Fiscal Crime Unit of the National Police (Udef) that was sent last June to Court number 2 of Arrecife, which is processing the case of the alleged criminal offenses produced in the granting of illegal licenses during Reyes' term. The police began investigating that company because Reyes declared a payment of 60,000 euros to the Treasury.

However, the company's administrator, González Clavijo, who is charged in the proceedings, declared in court that he had not been paid. He also stated, on the other hand, that he had not had a commercial relationship with Reyes or with the City Council, when that same company carried out five municipal works in two years for which it billed 475,000 euros.

These works, carried out between 1998 and 2000, were the Las Breñas dance floor, which cost 6,000 euros, the Yaiza sports center for 102,000 euros, the expansion of the cemetery for 81,000, the municipal mortuary for 114,000 and the football field for 167,000. The Police found unjustified differences between what was budgeted and what was paid in some of these works. González Clavijo also requested the construction of 158 premises in the Playa Blanca partial plan, which has been annulled by the Justice.

The Economic and Fiscal Crime Unit of the National Police highlights more relations of that company with the former mayor. Another of the administrators of Construcciones Isla de Lobos is José Rafael Mesa Ferrer, also charged in the proceedings and who will testify again this Friday in Court. In addition, Mesa and González Clavijo were administrators of Construcciones Clavijo, which built 190 bungalows in Playa Blanca and whose license, granted by Reyes, was annulled by the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands.

Mesa is also administrator of Gestión y Desarrollo Janubio, which owns a house in Playa Blanca in which a daughter of Reyes lived without paying rent. He is also administrator of the consultancy that kept the accounts of the company Sea Sun Lanzarote, of the son of Reyes and owner of his yacht, which was docked in the Marina Rubicón port and which also did not pay the mooring.

In turn, Mesa is a partner of the owners of the Marina Rubicón port, Juan Francisco Rosa and Rafael Lasso (both also charged in this proceeding) in the company Promociones Costa de Tías, which operates the Puerto del Carmen golf course.
