The Yaiza City Council is developing a new initiative to improve the energy efficiency of the municipality by launching a public tender for 195,000 euros for the contract to renovate public lighting in several streets in residential, tourist and commercial areas of the tourist town of Playa Blanca. The southern president, Óscar Noda, specifies that "this new action includes Calle La Fragata, which has just been paved, as well as the road in front of the Marcastell urbanization and sections of Avenida Papagayo and the Paseo Marítimo".
The Councilor for Public Works of Yaiza, Jonatan Lemes, explains that "we will replace the current luminaires with other lamps with LED technology, which improve the quality of lighting, environmental quality and significantly reduce energy consumption." The municipal initiative also foresees the installation of new poles built in materials that are unalterable to the elements and with a guarantee of resistance to the thermal and mechanical alterations inherent in their operation.
The renovation of the lighting on the central Avenida Papagayo will be carried out between the Playa Dorada hotel area and the Papagayo shopping center, while on the Paseo Marítimo, action will also be taken on this same section, which is pedestrian, and is parallel to said artery. The City Council will also carry out more actions in sections of adjacent streets whose lighting is deteriorated.
Óscar Noda reports that "we have obtained a new subsidy from the Government of the Canary Islands of 80,000 euros for energy efficiency projects in public infrastructures, so we will assume with municipal resources the difference determined by the budget of the winning offer."
