In addition, the municipality managed the granting of subsidies for specialized treatments, school supplies, basic supplies and pharmaceutical assistance, among others

The Tías City Council, through the Department of Social Welfare, Family, Equality and Citizen Participation, gave a significant boost to Social Services and the Conecta Tías strategy during 2024. The municipal management allowed to expand the coverage of financial aid, improve care for people in vulnerable situations and strengthen citizen participation through various community intervention initiatives.

Among the services provided, it is worth noting the attention to 649 people through the Social Services Office, the granting of rental aid to 83 family units, assistance to 32 people through the Home Help Service and the delivery of food packages to 110 families, benefiting a total of 440 people.

In addition, the City Council managed the granting of aid for specialized treatments, school supplies, basic supplies and pharmaceutical assistance, among others.

The first deputy mayor and councilor of the area, Nicolás Saavedra San Ginés, stressed that Social Services have been reinforced "with the aim of serving all people and families who need it. Despite the reduction in the unemployment rate in the municipality, the high cost of housing has generated a new social reality, in which many working families cannot cover their basic expenses."

For this reason, the resources allocated to financial aid, support services for the family unit and social inclusion programs were increased, also consolidating the Conecta Tías strategy as a fundamental pillar of community intervention.

Conecta Tías covered four projects subsidized in collaboration with the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands. The objective of these projects was to promote citizen participation through training in participatory budgets, and to promote infant-youth dynamization actions and cultural, sports and training activities, which had the participation of hundreds of citizens (including Spanish classes for foreigners, coordination meetings, thematic training and events such as the Team League Summer Night 2024).

More than 617,000 euros in subsidies

The commitment of the Tías City Council to the well-being of citizens is reflected in the strengthening of associations and entities that operate in the municipality. In this sense, more than 617,000 euros were allocated in nominated subsidies to organizations such as Talante Social, Maramar, Fundación Adsis, Aruma or Mararía, among others, allowing the continuity of their community support programs.

According to Nicolás Saavedra, "with this balance, the Tías City Council reaffirms its commitment to a close, accessible and effective social management, making available to citizens all possible resources to guarantee well-being and social cohesion in the municipality."
