The La Villa City Council will manage the municipal cemeteries

A very religious plenary session. This was the plenary session held in Teguise this Wednesday. And the theme of this session, convened as a matter of urgency, has revolved around cemeteries. The first item on the agenda that has been approved is the signing of an agreement with the Church "to undertake the administration of municipal cemeteries". With this agreement, the City Council of La Villa would be responsible for the management, the transfer of use and the administration of these sacramental places. This agreement is already drafted and has been accepted by both parties. Thanks to it, the City Council will take charge of them for a period of 20 years to improve them. The cemeteries that will be affected by this agreement are those of Tao, Guatiza and La Villa, although the latter is currently disused.

The next item on the agenda responded to a neighborhood demand, since the Tao cemetery urgently needs a series of improvements to be made to it. For this reason, the City Council has approved granting a subsidy to the Parish of Tao and Mozaga "for the construction of 20 new niches, two warehouses, a semi-basement and the construction of retaining walls to guarantee its use". For this, the City Council has allocated a item for this type of initiative in the municipal budget of 60,000 euros.

Another matter ratified in the session was the granting of another 60,000 euros in the 2007 budgets to "cover 20 percent of the value of the works, which amount to almost 250,000 euros, that the Ministry will execute in the educational centers of the municipality". Finally, the plenary session has also carried out an administrative procedure by which this body has taken knowledge of a report prepared by the Canary Islands Municipal Financing Fund on the Board of Trustees of the Hotel School in which it is specified that in 2005 "the entity had recognized rights worth 474,000 euros and recognized obligations of 569,000 euros".
