The City Council unregisters 47 foreigners who were registered in Arrecife from the municipal register.

The municipality of Arrecife has 47 fewer residents registered in the census. The initiative came from the City Council itself, which has deregistered these people, all of them foreigners, considering that their registration has "expired".

The announcement was published this Wednesday in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas, to comply with the resolutions issued in 2005 by the National Institute of Statistics and the General Directorate of Local Cooperation. According to these resolutions, foreigners who do not belong to the European Economic Community and who do not have permanent residence authorization, must renew their registration every two years.

Therefore, and given that almost 50 people who were registered in Arrecife have not complied with this procedure, the City Council has declared the expiration of their registration.

In some cases, they are children, some of whom have just turned two years old, but most are young people between 20 and 40 years old, according to data published in the Official Gazette. In addition, the list also includes a man of almost 90 years old.

The fact that they have not renewed their registration could mean that these people have returned to their countries of origin or have gone elsewhere. However, some may still be on the island, but no longer appear on the City Council's census.
