The Yaiza City Council formally conveyed to the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands the request for investment in structures that protect users from the sun in the main courts of the public schools of Yaiza and Playa Blanca, two recreational areas that, in the opinion of the mayor, Óscar Noda, “must offer greater comfort to students and have the conditions so that they can be used in the development of recreational, recreational activities or the celebration of academic ceremonies.”

The City Council demands a budget item in the 2026 regional accounts for the installation of shade canopies, also arguing that “they correspond to needs that are a clamor from the AMPAs and all the agents that make up the educational community of our municipality.”

The Playa Blanca school, with 825 students, is the second most populated center in the Canary Islands, but its main court only has a small covered part, “so boys and girls are exposed to the sun, and the goal is that they can enjoy better amenities in their rest time.”

For its part, the Yaiza school court also does not have shade, so the City Council also demands a roof so that it is an alternative space where students enjoy all the comfort conditions. Before the start of the school year, Yaiza carried out accessibility and leveling work on this court, along with various actions in several schools that involved a municipal investment of 140,000 euros.
