The Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote has publicly requested the resignation of the president of the Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC), Juan Alberto Martín. The businessmen affirm that "a mockery" is being made of the Lanzarote sector.
The Chamber considers the treatment that the ZEC is giving to the businessmen of Lanzarote to be a comparative offense, since for just over a year this body has been collaborating free of charge with the ZEC consortium. "During this time, the Chamber has put its facilities and part of its staff at the service of the ZEC to provide the advisory service," they point out.
After a year and once the results of the management have been verified, which have allowed, the Chamber highlights, that the ZEC companies in Lanzarote went from three to 21, the Chamber of Lanzarote requested its president, Juan Alberto Martín, economic involvement to continue offering the service.
This request was made based on the public subsidy that the ZEC receives of almost three million euros for a staff of thirty-four people and offices that it only has installed in the two capitals, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Investment
The Chamber of Commerce demands that the ZEC invest in Lanzarote the proportional part of that public money, while the president of the ZEC has addressed the Cabildo so that this institution finances "with the money of the inhabitants of Lanzarote a service that they should provide compulsorily as a public company dependent on the Ministry of Finance by 75% and on the Government of the Canary Islands by 25%," says the Chamber.
The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote, Eduardo Spínola, considers that this means "a mockery of the island's business community and requests the immediate dismissal of its president, Juan Alberto Martín Martín."
