The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, accompanied by the councilors of Education and Culture, Aroa Pérez and Amado Vizcaíno, participated this morning in the closing ceremony of the Educational Innovation Project 'marTIAnos' that took place at the Alcalde Rafael Cedrés Infant and Primary School.
As explained by the director of the school, David García, "the project, in which the 2nd grade primary school students have participated, has been a success. During this last month the students have carried out numerous activities and workshops linked to astronomy, placing special emphasis on multiple intelligences, the integration of new technologies or project-based learning."
In addition to the highly creative works, the students have also participated in talks to learn about the solar system and in different astronomical observations. "The fundamental objective of this innovative project," emphasizes Miguel Iván Bellido, scientific advisor of the Lanzarote Teachers' Center, "has been to awaken the curiosity of the little ones for the world of astronomy and astrophysics through a different learning system, much more practical and with specific applications for tablets and computers."
The Lanzarote Teachers' Center (CEP) together with the Astrophysics Institute of the Canary Islands have collaborated in the implementation of this educational project that, as a culmination, has a very special astronomical museum, which has been inaugurated today at the school and is full of models, projects and small investigations carried out by the students themselves and their families.
The Councilor for Education of the Tías City Council, Aroa Pérez, congratulated all the students for "the great work done" and invited everyone to visit this museum that will be open to the public at the Tías school during the next week in the morning and afternoon.
During the inauguration of this astronomical museum, the students also participated in a videoconference with Alfred Rosenberg, scientist of the Astrophysics Institute of the Canary Islands and took the opportunity to raise their doubts and questions.
Also present at the event were the general director of Educational Planning, Innovation and Promotion of the Government of the Canary Islands, Juan Rafael Bailón; the Island Director of Education, Mario Pérez and the director of the CEP of Lanzarote, Fernando Núñez, who applauded the involvement of the Tías school in this enriching experience that has allowed students to learn more about the origin of our universe.
