The director of the Canary Islands Institute for Equality, Elena Máñez, highlighted this Thursday in Lanzarote that one of the priority objectives for this legislature is the development of a strategy for prevention and awareness on equality and gender violence. To this end, she called for the involvement "at all levels" of the administration and of all entities that fight for equality and against gender violence to achieve "a comprehensive and global action that increases knowledge about this social scourge and eradicates erroneous ideas."
Elena Máñez convened the meeting of the Forum Against Gender Violence of Lanzarote, composed of women's associations, political parties, unions and administrations of the island to explain the objectives and priority lines of the institute for 2012 and for the entire legislature.
In this sense, she conveyed the need to establish a common strategy between administrations and agents involved in this area. "If we want to improve the knowledge that current society has about the causes of violence and eradicate erroneous ideas about it, we must seek synergies and join forces so that the actions to be developed have a significant social impact," Elena Máñez stressed.
