The Minister of Social Welfare of the Government of the Canary Islands, Candelaria Delgado, announced this Wednesday that Lanzarote will have "nine million" euros to create about "80 new places" for the care of people in situations of dependency and with disabilities.
As she explained in a statement, this investment is made with funds for recovery, transformation and resilience of Spain within the axis 'Economy of Care and strengthening of equality and inclusion policies', whose destination is the creation of "new places and expansion of the allocation of care resources of the network of social health centers".
Candelaria Delgado has specified that, after meeting with Oswaldo Betancort, an initial proposal has been made based on technical meetings, needs and the best location of each place, which will be "adjusted in number and according to the specific needs of each municipality".
Regarding the dates to transfer these funds, the Minister has advanced that it is estimated that it may go until November so that they can 2fix what specific projects and in which municipalities" the new places will be created.
The distribution of funds has been made according to different variables and weightings in such a way that "60% of the total funds are established according to the population of each territory2 in this item, and Lanzarote has "5,184,000 euros according to the 156,112 people registered" on the island.
The other 40% has been applied according to the number of dependent people, people over 80 years of age, population between 65 and 79 years of age, population with recognized disability greater than or equal to 33% from 0-64 years of age and the ratio of available places in relation to the index promoted by the WHO for older people (5 per 100) and the ratio of available places index model of coverage of 5% on the total number of potentially dependent people between 0 and 64 years of age.
In principle, the financing proposal that has been foreseen involves contributing 50% of the total in the current year, 15% in the next year 2024, 25% in 2025 and the remaining 10% in 2026.
According to the first calculations and initial forecasts transferred by local corporations, this investment will finance more than 600 new social health places on all the islands.
In addition to the new places that were pending construction within the framework of the II social health infrastructure plan, during the meeting they also raised the actions that will be developed in the III Social Health Plan of the Canary Islands, and addressed actions related to the areas of youth and the elderly.
