The Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, led by Poli Suárez, has awarded the execution of the accessibility improvement works at the César Manrique Secondary Education Institute (IES), in the Lanzarote municipality of Arrecife.
With a budget of 245,779 euros and an execution period of four months, this action aims to adapt the center to current regulations regarding accessibility and elimination of architectural barriers.
In order to facilitate the mobility and access of all students, especially those with reduced mobility, the intervention will include various improvements in the center's infrastructure: adaptation of ramps, installation of new non-slip pavements, improvement of access to classrooms and common spaces, as well as the incorporation of adapted signage elements and measures to guarantee accessible communication.
Promoted by the General Directorate of Infrastructure and Equipment, coordinated by Iván G. Carro, this is an intervention that responds to a demand from the educational community of the center, which had been requesting for some time an action that would guarantee adequate accessibility conditions for all students.
“These works acquire even greater relevance as it is an ordinary center for preferential educational care for students with motor disabilities,” recalled Iván G. Carro. “Thanks to it, we will be able to eliminate existing architectural barriers and significantly improve the accessibility conditions of the center,” he added.
Framed within the set of actions promoted by the Ministry of Education to improve the conditions of habitability, safety and accessibility in the educational centers of the archipelago, the intervention in the IES César Manrique will contribute to the development of a more inclusive and equitable education for all students.
