The Canary Islands Government assures that 80 percent of the wind energy projects in Lanzarote are in public information

The Minister of Employment, Industry and Commerce of the Canary Islands Government, Margarita Ramos, has assured that 80 percent of the wind energy projects in Lanzarote are in public information, during her intervention in the Parliamentary Commission of Industry, Commerce and Consumption, where she specified the situation of each of these initiatives.

Ramos indicated that of the five projects foreseen in the Order of June 8, 2009 of public tender for the allocation of 5.9 MW of wind power on the Island, "only one has not presented its plan, nor the mandatory environmental impact study."

The project of Montaña Mina II, in the municipality of San Bartolomé, is in the process of public information and consultation with entities. In the same situation are those of Chimida, in Teguise, and those of Cerro Tabayesco and La Camella, both in Haría.

According to Ramos, only the wind energy project of Caldera de Zonsamas in the municipality of Teguise is pending project and environmental impact study. The Minister insisted on the commitment of the Canary Islands Government to respond to previous wind energy tenders and guarantee their implementation and stressed her intention to launch new wind energy concessions from the second half of this year in the Archipelago.
