The Cabildo of Lanzarote has committed to prioritize the section between Tinajo and La Santa of the Lanzarote bicycle lane project for this year. The president, Pedro San Ginés, has pointed out that the Pluriannual Plan contemplates about 600,000 euros for 2014, to which must be added another 500,000 euros of remainders from 2013 to undertake the maritime front that will unite Costa Teguise with Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen, with an access lane to the airport.
For the moment, the first works have already been awarded in a section of the El Cable urbanization, in Arrecife, and "work is being done on the rest", according to the Cabildo. As a second priority phase of this project, works will be undertaken on the mixed road that will run along the old Yaiza to Playa Blanca road. This initiative will be executed with the collaboration of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), and will be co-financed by the Cabildo and this organization.
The Cabildo also intends to execute the part called "Ring of Fire", which runs partially through the municipality of Tinajo. Specifically, from Montañas de Fuego to Mancha Blanca and back to Yaiza through Tinguatón. As a whole, the cost of these last two actions is budgeted at around 700,000 euros.
In addition, in a meeting with Tinajo, the president clarified that it will be "a priority" to also build a bike lane that connects Tinajo with the sports complex of La Santa. This project is still pending quantification. In this meeting, the mayor, Jesús Machín, thanked the Cabildo for its intention to give priority to this section of the bike lane project, "so necessary for the municipality, due to the large influx of cyclists who travel these roads daily".
Works executed and pending execution in Tinajo
In this meeting between the Cabildo and the City Council of Tinajo, the president explained the works that have been executed in this municipality or those that are pending execution. In this sense, he emphasized the completion works of the Tinajo Sports Center, which has not yet opened its doors, despite the fact that it was built 20 years ago.
The Cabildo invested 160,000 euros in this infrastructure, to which another 40,000 euros will be added for equipment and markers, among other actions. The mayor explained that, "once some conditions" regarding the acoustics of the installation have been overcome, he will be able to grant the license and finally open the sports center.
The Cabildo also highlighted that the renovation works of the Day Center of the San Roque residence have already been awarded for 63,000 euros. On the other hand, the first Corporation will assume the drafting of the paving project and the expansion of the link with Tinache through the access to Los Dolores, which was pending drafting by the City Council. These works are budgeted at 150,000 euros. Likewise, the project of "Light and sound show in the Caldera del Cuervo" is in the process of being processed, for 80,000 euros.
Regarding the investments of Tinajo that will be undertaken with charge to the 2013 Tourism Infrastructure Plan, the president of the Cabildo reported that the conditioning and improvement works in the surroundings of the Isleta de La Santa have already been sent to the Government of the Canary Islands for supervision, for an amount of 255,000 euros. The location was visited this Tuesday by representatives of both administrations.
As a whole, all these works that are being executed or are pending execution of the 2013 Island Investment Plan, amount to an amount close to 600,000 euros.
Other investments pending execution
Regarding the Pluriannual Road Plan (2013-2016), they explained that of the seven million euros of this Pluriannual Plan, the first actions to reinforce the pavement are already being undertaken in various sections of the island's roads for an amount of one million euros. With charge to the remaining investment of six million euros, several works are planned to improve paving in the municipality, specifically on the road from Mozaga to Peñón and on the road from Masdache to La Vegueta.
And, among other items that will be allocated to the municipality of Tinajo, such as those related to Transport or Social Emergency, the Cabildo plans to develop in this 2014 energy saving projects and energy audits in municipal facilities of all the corporations of the island to reduce the bill and electricity consumption with energy self-sufficiency systems. In the municipality of Tinajo, some project will be developed in the new sports hall, in the Municipal Theater or in the Social Hall.
Investments of the Water Consortium
Regarding the actions contemplated by the Water Consortium of the investment plan that Canal Gestión Lanzarote will execute in this 2014, in Tinajo works will be undertaken for a total amount of 700,000 euros for the cleaning and waterproofing of deposits (200,000 euros), for the renovation of the distribution network in La Vegueta (350,000 euros) and for the renovation of the distribution network in Tinajo and El Cuchillo (150,000 euros).
The Cabildo explained that it is carrying out the necessary actions to correct the damage caused by the last storm, suffered in the fishing shelter of La Santa. The Cabildo has allocated a total of about 20,000 euros for the electrical repair work, the civil work of restoration of the shelter and is pending some action such as dredging, repairing the doors and replacing the machine. This problem affected more than 14 families of fishermen who operate in this port. For its part, the City Council asked the Cabildo to also allocate a specific aid to the "Piedra de La Santa" fishermen's association for the repair of material damage.
In the same way, the president committed to execute the project of "Adaptation of the marquee for the ball court in the Society of Tinajo" for an amount greater than 20,000 euros and to study the demand of the City Council to co-finance the visor of the soccer field. The latter is budgeted at 80,000.
The municipal representatives conveyed the need for the Cabildo to undertake the works to expand the access road to the cemetery in this year, for the transit of the procession and hearse, for an amount of 150,000 euros.
On the other hand, the Councilor for Public Works, José Antonio Gutiérrez, also committed to the mayor of this municipality to repaint the road from Mancha Blanca to Tinguatón, as well as to execute, with charge to the remainders of 2013 already transferred to this Consistory, for 155,000 euros, the resurfacing of the streets El Canal, La Raspilla and El Rincón (behind the Institute), as well as paving Las Peñas street.
The mayor also requested the Cabildo to resurface two sections of the roads that go from Tinajo to Tenesa for about 100,000 euros, and the section from the gas station to the Tinajo roundabout. Finally, among other demands, Tinajo asked the Cabildo to allocate an item of 80,000 euros for the habilitation of trails and that the Cabildo co-finance with the Government of the Canary Islands and the City Council a project of "Strategic Plan". This strategic planning project would be valued at 120,000 euros, of which they requested that 40,000 be co-financed by the first Insular institution.
