The Cabildo will install three self-consumption photovoltaic plants in Tías

The works are fully financed by a direct nominated subsidy granted by the General Directorate of Energy for an amount of 570,250 euros

The Cabildo of Lanzarote will undertake the installation works of three self-consumption photovoltaic plants in the municipality of Tías. This plan is part of the project called 'Energy efficiency, renewable energies and promotion of the electric vehicle', in order to promote sustainability and bring this reality closer to the population.

The works are fully financed by a direct nominated subsidy granted by the General Directorate of Energy belonging to the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, for an amount of 570,250 euros.

The Minister of Energy of the Island Council, Ariagona González, states that the Administration is trying to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. "It is of vital importance for this Council to follow the path of sustainability, mainly due to the exemplary effect that this has on the population."

In this way, within a period of eight weeks, both the Tías Town Hall and the Puerto del Carmen senior center will have 18kW and 10kW photovoltaic plants, respectively. This will be added to the execution of the work at the CEIP La Asomada-Mácher, which will last three months, with the installation of a 20kW self-consumption plant.

"Our island depends almost entirely on fossil fuels to generate energy. Therefore, we want to show the population that it is necessary to take alternative measures that reduce the impact on the environment," explains the Minister.

From the Island Council they remember that the implementation of renewable energy systems like these "avoids the use of hydrocarbons and, therefore, allows reducing the amount of CO2 that is emitted into the atmosphere annually".
