The Social Welfare and Inclusion area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, in collaboration with the Youth area, presented this Thursday a campaign to prevent infections of sexually transmitted diseases'.

The event, held in the Plenary Hall of the Cabildo, was attended by the Minister of Social Welfare, Marciano Acuña, and the Minister of Youth, Aroa Revelo, who stressed the importance of developing this type of project "in favor of our young people." In addition, different municipalities of the island such as Tías, Haría, Teguise, San Bartolomé and Arrecife also attended.

It will be developed during the coming months in order to emphasize the importance of using condoms to prevent sexually transmitted infections, the value of this instrument to fight against HIV/AIDS. During this first edition, 1,500 female and 5,000 male condoms will be distributed in the different municipalities of the island.

Marciano cuña, stressed that the choice of the date to launch this campaign "was not accidental." "In summer, prevention is relaxed and there are many more risky sexual practices, so now more than ever it is important to promote these programs," he said.

For her part, Aroa Revelo, insisted that "young people are a particularly at-risk group, as they consider condoms as a means to prevent pregnancy, but not to reject these infections."
