The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Tourism Infrastructure, has granted the Cabildo of Lanzarote a direct subsidy of 357,142 euros to carry out conservation and maintenance works on the bike lane of the Avenida de las Playas of Puerto del Carmen, within the Canary Islands Tourism Infrastructure Plan PITCAN 2017-2023.

"The objective of these works, which will be carried out in the section between Acatife Street and Avenida Italia, is to improve and modernize our tourist and leisure spaces in order to offer a better service to the local population and our visitors,” explained the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo.

"Currently, this bike lane that runs along the Avenida de Las Playas of Puerto del Carmen is in very poor condition. Its pavement is aged and shows cracks, deformations, potholes and potholes, with significant surface deterioration," point out from the Cabildo.

The Councilor for Public Works, Jacobo Medina, explains that “the project, drafted by the City Council of Tías, consists of the repair of this pavement, with a new layer of asphalt, in addition to an improvement of the radii of curvature." The action will be complemented by the adaptation on the south side of the pedestrian crossings and the horizontal signage of the bicycle lane, "to achieve greater coexistence between pedestrians and bicycles.”

Medina advances that “the execution period of these improvement works will be two months, once the work is awarded, and will allow the complete renovation of the image of this avenue so frequented by residents and tourists.”

In this sense, the president has stressed “the importance of continuing to bet on the renovation and modernization of our tourist spaces and infrastructures,” while valuing “the very important effort also made by the hotel and non-hotel accommodation on our island, which are renovating their facilities in these difficult times we are experiencing.”

Precisely, Corujo has reported that in the Island Government Council held this Wednesday, a new prior authorization was approved for the project and provisional classification of the Apartamentos Golf y Mar de Costa Teguise extra-hotel establishment for the increase of its category from 2 keys to three stars. “Renovation continues to be a fundamental tool to reposition our tourist destination and continue to be pioneers in respect for the environment and the optimization of resources,” the president defended.
