The Cabildo puts out to tender the drafting of the Puerto del Carmen Mobility Plan

The Cabildo of Lanzarote has initiated the procedure for awarding the technical assistance service and implementation of the Urban Mobility Plan for the tourist area of Puerto del Carmen, co-financed by the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN) and managed by the Department of Coordination and Project Planning headed by Jacobo Medina.

The maximum budget for the tender, which will be carried out through a simplified open procedure, amounts to 37,558.69 euros plus 2,441.31 euros in respect of IGIC.

The Councilor for Mobility and Accessibility of the Cabildo, José Francisco Hernández, (PP) explains the need to have "this basic instrument for planning the transport and mobility system in a tourist town such as Puerto del Carmen, where a large transit of vehicles and pedestrians is recorded daily and where it is essential to deepen the culture of respect for the environment and the rational use of private vehicles".

"It is, in short, to make a real commitment to the use of public transport and travel on foot and by bicycle compared to the use of motor vehicles."

According to the Councilor, "the plan will include all the elements that have to do with infrastructure, equipment and facilities, public transport services, parking and traffic management", all focused on solving the main mobility problems that Puerto del Carmen currently presents.

Another fundamental aspect of the study, stresses José Francisco Hernández, is that "the actions established in the Plans for Modernization, Improvement and Increase of Competitiveness of Puerto del Carmen must be included, both those that are already approved and those that are pending approval".

"The fact that the modernization plans include, in addition to the reform and rehabilitation of tourist establishments, a comprehensive organization of the town through the promotion of public spaces and recreation areas, forces us to integrate these actions in the future document in order to avoid overlaps or contradictions," specifies Hernández.

The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Puerto del Carmen, in which the Cabildo began working in early 2018, will plan actions with a horizon of ten years.

The call will be open until October 25, 2019 and those interested in it can access all the information in the contracting profile of the Cabildo Insular de Lanzarote
