The Popular Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa achieved this Thursday that the insular Corporation support the motion presented by the Popular Party to demand from the Government of Spain the recognition of the National Police and the Civil Guard as high-risk professions, as well as the urgent improvement of material resources and personnel.
The initiative, defended in the Plenary by the deputy spokesperson of the Popular Group and counselor of Security and Emergencies, Francisco Aparicio, is part of an action promoted in all institutions to support a historic demand of both security forces.
During his speech, Aparicio recalled that the agents perform "an essential job to guarantee the safety of all citizens, facing situations of enormous danger and pressure every day."
The popular counselor also highlighted the specific reality experienced by Lanzarote and La Graciosa due to the migratory phenomenon and border control, circumstances that "mean a permanent extra effort for national police and civil guards stationed on our islands." "From Lanzarote and La Graciosa, we had a moral and institutional obligation to stand by those who protect us every day," he stated after the motion's approval.
The deputy spokesperson of the PP regretted that "the Government of Spain continues to ignore a fair demand widely supported by the professionals themselves." "We are talking about men and women who risk their lives daily and who still continue to work, in many cases, with insufficient resources. It cannot be that vests, body cameras, or adequate protective devices are missing," he affirmed.
Aparicio also insisted that recognition as a high-risk profession does not imply "any privilege," but rather "an act of justice and common sense towards those who guarantee our safety."
