The Cabildo has signed this Monday morning an agreement with the Canary Islands Institute of Public Administration (ICAP), dependent on the Ministry of Presidency of the Canary Islands Government, with the aim of offering a better permanent formation to the civil servants of town halls, Cabildos and other public institutions in Lanzarote.

In order to improve the skills of civil servants and the quality of services provided to citizens, the First Corporation will cede between February and March some facilities -possibly in the Cicca room, in the library or in the extended headquarters of the Cabildo-, so that the ICAP manages during this year several courses for a better formation of public workers.

Thanks to the Island Training Plan for all the Canary Islands, which this year will be endowed with some 120,000 euros, civil servants will improve some of their weak points and the administration will thus satisfy those weaknesses that it considers most worrying in its workers.

The courses will begin to be developed between February and March, and the idea, according to the president of the ICAP, Mariano de León, is to bring this training closer to the civil servants and not the other way around, so the points enabled will depend on the municipality of origin of the workers who wish to receive the courses. "This training is based on a survey we conducted last year. There is also another project with which we will form a working committee to know the training requests of the workers themselves," announced De León.

The island Cabildo intends to better manage public resources but not to the detriment of citizens. Therefore, the corporation presided over by Inés Rojas wants to improve the preparation of the civil servants it already has, instead of hiring new ones. The Minister of Human Resources of the Cabildo, Juan Santana, explained that "one of the objectives is to train people so that when new positions arise, it is not necessary to hire new workers, but to draw on internal promotion".

In addition to teamwork, a good command of New Technologies and improvement in communication skills, the collaboration agreement focuses on subjects such as urban planning and management, file management, prevention of psychosocial risks and customer service, among other topics.

In the words of the president of the Cabildo, Inés Rojas, the creation of this permanent classroom in Lanzarote "will mean less expenses for public coffers and will allow us to get much more performance from our civil servants".
