The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, together with the councilor of Social Welfare, Marci Acuña, and the vice-councilor of Social Welfare of the Government of the Canary Islands, Francisco Candil, have visited the apartment for preparation for adult life and family respite of the Asociación Social Creciendo, in Playa Blanca.
This resource, which has already welcomed more than 30 people since its launch, has approved financing of 60,000 euros from the Cabildo of Lanzarote in 2025. It is a space designed to promote the autonomy of people with intellectual disabilities, while offering a respite to their families, allowing temporary stays in an adapted environment and with professional support.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, stressed that this project "is no longer a pilot test, but a reality in Lanzarote." "This house offers the autonomy that these people need for the development of their daily lives," he said. He also conveyed his congratulations to all the professionals of the Association "because this resource offers a better quality of life to the people of Lanzarote."
For his part, the councilor of Social Welfare, Marci Acuña, stressed that it is "an apartment for family respite and for the process of emancipation of people with intellectual disabilities." He added that "it has demonstrated its effectiveness and fits fully with the Island Strategy for Accessibility and Inclusion and in the policy of care and excellence in care in which the Island Institution works daily."
Acuña highlighted the role played by associations like this in improving the well-being of families and insisted on the collaboration of the Cabildo with this type of initiatives that consolidate a fundamental support network in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
Resources promoted by Social Welfare
The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Area of Social Welfare, maintains its commitment to supporting people with disabilities and their families through various innovative projects on the island. Among them is the supervised apartment of Adislan, also intended for the preparation for independent living and the accompaniment in the transition to adult life of people with intellectual disabilities.
These resources are added to other social actions such as the strengthening of dependency care programs, the investment in new residences and day centers, and the financial support to third sector entities that work for inclusion.
