The Cabildo of Lanzarote, on the occasion of the International Day against Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking of Women, Girls and Boys, which will take place on September 23, presented this Thursday the awareness campaign against prostitution, aimed at the 'whore-monger' as the main promoter of this criminal practice.
The campaign was presented by the Councilor for Social Welfare and Inclusion of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Marci Acuña, who thanked the Equality Area of the first island institution for the implementation of the project and for its struggle "to achieve real and palpable equality in society".
Marci Acuña assures that these actions "are aimed at men, who are the ones who buy women and who commit the crime". In addition, she points out the need to carry out "a real awareness for those who normalize this practice and not only the 'whore-monger', since social indifference is what protects them".
Acuña points out that "Lanzarote is no stranger to the problem of sexual exploitation, since since 2021 there have been 395 women in prostitution who have been cared for on the island by the organization Médicos del Mundo Lanzarote, figures that cannot be given in a place whose institutions promote the maximum recognition of women".
This campaign will carry out dissemination actions in different channels such as press, radio, television, social networks and posters, through which it is intended to raise awareness among the population by providing information adapted to the reality of sexual exploitation and trafficking of women, highlighting that not only the applicant is the problem, but that those who look the other way are accomplices.
The campaign is framed in the collaboration agreement with the Canary Islands Institute of Equality for the development of the Social System of Prevention and Integral Protection of Victims of Gender Violence on the island of Lanzarote.
