The Cabildo of Lanzarote increases subsidies to the primary sector to "two million" euros

A "more than necessary" item for the livestock sector that is crying out for "institutional support", says Oswaldo Betancort

The Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved this Friday morning, in plenary session, the increase in the amounts for subsidies to the agricultural and livestock sector of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, which increase from the "current 100,000 euros" to "two million" euros in this year's call.

"If we don't want to leave anyone out, the increase in the item was more than necessary, especially for the livestock sector that is dying and crying out for institutional support that takes the activity of the primary sector seriously," according to Oswaldo Betancort.

Until now, the subsidies to improve the profitability of agricultural and livestock farms in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, under a competitive system, "had an allocation of 100,000 euros", while, after the approval of the correction of the annex of the 'Strategic Subsidy Plan', they can be "increased by 1,900,000 euros, incorporating them into the Budgets for the year 2023".

The Cabildo of Lanzarote recalls in this regard that the deadline to apply for subsidies for the improvement of agricultural holdings is open "until October 4", while the call for those aimed at the livestock sector will be published at the "end of this month of September".

The agricultural aid is aimed at subsidizing the "operating expenses of an agricultural holding", such as the purchase of stone, sand or picón, land, manure or the transport of water in tanks.

Farmers from Lanzarote and La Graciosa registered in the REGEPA who have their registered office in either of the two islands can benefit from these aids. To verify that the farmer is registered in the REGEPA, you can consult the following link.

Applications for subsidies can be made at the offices of the Insular Agricultural Service (Experimental Agricultural Farm) from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., for which they must bring plans of the farms where the expense will be executed and the ID, or through the specific procedure enabled in the electronic headquarters of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the latter being a mandatory procedure for legal entities.

The regulatory bases for the granting of these subsidies under a competitive system, aimed at the agricultural and livestock sectors of the island of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, are published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas, number 88, of July 21, 2023.

The justification period for the agricultural line will be from May 1 to 31, 2024, or earlier if the activity subject to the subsidy has ended, and the payment of the same is made in a single payment after justification.
