The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Department of Transportation, is incorporating two new buses into its fleet after an investment of 418,049 euros charged to the concession contract that links the Cabildo with the company IntercityBus Lanzarote. The announcement was made this Thursday, September 22, coinciding with the European Car-Free Day.

In an act at the Castle of San José, the Councilor of the Area and Vice President of the Cabildo, Marcos Bergaz, together with the manager of the company, Esther Cabrera, explained that these two new vehicles will reinforce the service in the face of the increase in demand for collective transport.

"We have increased this year's figures by more than 42,000 passengers, with a total of 2,869,436 users in the first eight months of 2022 compared to 2,826,458 in the same period of 2019, the year before the pandemic," says Marcos Bergaz.

"Now we have more efficient, reliable and environmentally friendly buses. Vehicles that will allow us to effectively serve the thousands of workers, as well as tourists, who use our transport day by day," adds the councilor, specifying that with the new acquisitions the average age of the fleet has been reduced to five years.

The councilor recalls that the Cabildo's desire for 2022 is to incorporate 12 new buses. Five were already presented in May, which added to the two announced today makes a total of seven so far this year.

"If the markets allow it, because there are difficulties as a result of the situation that Europe is experiencing due to the war in Ukraine and the increase in demand for new vehicles, the other five units will be a reality and we will reach the goal of 12 new buses to enhance the conditions of the service," concludes Bergaz.
