The Cabildo of Lanzarote approved, in the Ordinary Plenary session held this Thursday, the nomination of subsidy to four town councils for the Municipal Cooperation Plan 2026. Specifically, the projects of San Bartolomé, Teguise, Tías, and Yaiza were given the go-ahead.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted "the institutional loyalty that this Corporation has always had with the town councils of the island". "This Cabildo has always been hand in hand with the seven town councils, attending to their needs and financing those projects that benefit all citizens, without distinction of who governs and moving away from the bad practices of previous executives," he added.
The vice-president and head of the Planning and Project Coordination area, María Jesús Tovar, explained in the plenary session that the area is currently awaiting the projects and necessary documentation from the rest of the municipalities to also approve said nominations. "From the area, we have always been clear that we must always help the town councils, and we have always done so with all the funds at our disposal, both own and external. The results are there," she stated, also recalling that the distribution is based on the population of each municipality.
Specifically, the Town Council of San Bartolomé has a nominated subsidy amounting to 755,293 euros for the project of exterior adaptation of the Lomo de Tesa Sociocultural Center and execution of the building. For its part, the municipality of Teguise has an allocated amount of 938,403.04 euros to execute two projects: on the one hand, the asphalting of Buganvillas street and its transversals; and for the supply of nine 9-seater vehicles plus cargo and one cargo vehicle for the City Council.
The Town Council of Tías will execute, with a nominated amount of 827,746.69 euros, two projects: Phase 1 of repaving and improvement of Reina Sofía street in Puerto del Carmen; and the project of adaptation, modernization, and improvement of the exterior space of the Varadero area in Puerto del Carmen.
Finally, the Cabildo of Lanzarote grants a nominated subsidy framed within the Municipal Cooperation Plan 2026 to the Town Council of Yaiza for an amount of 757,468.30 euros. In this case, the financing will be allocated to the project of expansion of the recreational-sports spaces of San Marcial de Rubicon.
