The Cabildo denounces that Ástrid Pérez "sabotaged" a rainwater project in Arrecife and delayed another

“It's incredible how the mayor moves heaven and earth for a concert, and for a work of this importance she is not even capable of responding in a reasonable time,” questions councilor Alfredo Mendoza

Action in the municipality of Arrecife during the storm

The Socialist Party of Arrecife affirms that the mayor of Arrecife "boycotted the project to condition and improve Manolo Millares street, which included an important economic item to solve the problem of flooding due to rain."

According to reports, in December 2021 "the Cabildo of Lanzarote transferred the ambitious project to repair that area and the mayor's response was that she rejected the investment and that the Arrecife City Council would undertake the works autonomously." “It is the first time that a city council has directly rejected the Cabildo's investment to improve the lives of its citizens,” says the Councilor for Public Works of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Alfredo Mendoza, who emphasizes that the city government "rejected the staggering amount of almost seven hundred and fifty thousand euros, with the excuse that they were going to execute it alone."

"To date we have seen that, sadly, Arrecife disregarded an important sum of money, the city's residents have the same unresolved problem, and the mayor of Arrecife is incapable of undertaking any project that is not a spree or a party," criticizes Mendoza.

The socialist affirms that it was "an ambitious action that reformed the sewage plan and also the rainwater network in the area, in addition to improving sidewalks and accesses in general." In this regard, he recalls that the entrance to the city is a black spot for flooding that in each episode of rain greatly complicates access to the capital from Tías and Yaiza, as well as the lives of the residents of the Las Salinas, La Destila and the city avenue neighborhoods.

The Councilor for Public Works also adds that the Cabildo requested administrative collaboration to undertake the works on Portugal Street on November 5, 2021. "Astrid Pérez took more than half a year to respond to the Cabildo's request, doing so on May 6, 2022, so the work has not been able to be undertaken to date," laments Mendoza. “It is incredible how Pérez moves heaven and earth for a concert, and for a work of this importance she is not even capable of responding in a reasonable time,” questions the Councilor for Public Works of the Cabildo.

Faced with this situation, he asks the mayor of Arrecife to collaborate with the first institution and that “if she is not capable of managing the Consistory, at least do not prevent other institutions from solving the problems of its residents."  And he insists that "if Astrid had wanted to, at least these two black spots would already be resolved.”
