The Cabildo de Lanzarote hosted the conference Geothermal Energy: Challenges and Opportunities in the Canary Islands, a meeting in which renewable energy experts, researchers and representatives of the public administration have analyzed the possibilities of applying geothermal energy on the island.
The event, which featured speakers of reference such as the doctor in Geological Sciences, José Francisco Albert Beltrán, and representatives of the company Exceed Geo Energy, is part of the Cabildo's strategy to advance the energy transition and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
The Minister of Energy, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, stressed the importance of exploring all possible avenues to promote clean energy in Lanzarote. "Our island has great potential in renewable energies and geothermal energy is one of the alternatives that we must study rigorously. The energy transition is not an option, it is a necessity, and from the Cabildo we are firmly committed to finding sustainable solutions that guarantee a cleaner future for new generations."
The Minister also highlighted the role of institutional collaboration and scientific knowledge in the development of new energy models. "The involvement of experts, specialized companies and administrations is key to advancing with guarantees on this path. This type of meeting allows us to know the most advanced technologies and evaluate their viability in Lanzarote," said Miguel Ángel Jiménez.
During the conference, the company Exceed Geo Energy presented the advances in geothermal technology and its potential application in the Canary Islands, while the technicians of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands and the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain shared their knowledge and proposals for the development of future projects in the archipelago.
