The awarded company will carry out, for the next two years, the repair, maintenance and associated services of the island's road network, which includes 344 kilometers of roads

The Governing Council of the Cabildo has approved this Monday the awarding to the company Señalizaciones Villar S.L of the ordinary conservation contract for the roads of insular and regional ownership for an amount of 3,022,673.52 million euros, including IGIC.

This was announced by the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, who highlighted “the investment effort that the Corporation has made in these last two years to fine-tune the island's road network with resurfacing works and improvements in service contracts, both with this ordinary road maintenance and with the cleaning and improvement of margins and garden areas awarded last September for a value of 2.7 million euros.”

For his part, the Minister of Public Works, Planning and Project Coordination, Jacobo Medina, explained that this new contract will have a duration of two years, extendable to two more years, and “its purpose is to maintain the roads in optimal conditions, as well as to respond to immediate and urgent actions that may arise, caused by accidents, meteorological agents or landslides.”

According to the counselor, it will be the new company that executes the works that years ago were carried out with personnel from the Roads and Works Area, which formed a team of more than 25 people.

“Over time, that staff was reduced mainly due to retirements, which made it very difficult to provide the service in optimal conditions, combining ordinary maintenance with unforeseen events and emergencies that may arise,” concludes Medina.
