The multiservice group Clece S.A. has been awarded the contract for the management of the three residences of the Cabildo de Lanzarote for patients with Alzheimer's: the Las Cabreras day center, the Domingo de Guzmán senior citizens' residence and the La Graciosa day center.
Until now, the service of the three centers was managed by the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's and Other Dementias (AFA), who will continue until Clece takes over. The Cabildo de Lanzarote hopes that the change of management will take place “in early February”, as the Councilor for Social Welfare, Isabel Martín, pointed out in statements to La Voz.
Currently the process is in an administrative phase and the First Institution is requiring the company Clece “documentation and information”, to begin to manage the transfer of powers.
“AFA is an important entity for the island of Lanzarote”, said the Councilor for Social Welfare, who stressed that “it cannot economically manage the service with this dimension.”
Isabel Martín stated that there has been an economic increase in the service of more than 800,000 euros, since it has gone from having an item of “more than 1.1 million” to having a budget of “more than 1.9 million”. In addition, she added that there has been “an increase in the professionalization of the profiles”, although she stresses that “all current staff will be subrogated”.
“We are regularizing an administrative situation that was not regularized,” insisted the councilor, in the face of the criticism that this tender has generated from AFA. Regarding the complaint raised by the association, stating that the money it received per place was insufficient, Isabel Martín pointed out that the Cabildo “does not have a real administrative contract” nor did they know “what the real cost is, except for the information provided by the association itself.”
