This measure will allow municipalities to have more time to complete key works for local development and infrastructure improvement

Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote

The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved, in its session this Monday, a new extension for the execution and justification of the projects included in the Municipal Cooperation Plans (PCM) of the year 2022, and even one from 2020, attending to the request of the town councils of the island, with the exception of Teguise and Tías.

This measure will allow municipalities to have more time to complete key works for local development and infrastructure improvement.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted the importance of this extension of deadlines "to guarantee that the planned actions can be executed with the quality and the required premises." "From the Corporation we are aware of the difficulties that municipalities may face in the management of public works, and our objective is to facilitate the completion of these essential projects that will improve the quality of life of our neighbors," he said.

"This extension is a sign of our willingness to collaborate with the town councils. We want each investment to translate into real improvements for the citizens, and with this extension of deadlines we ensure that no project is left unexecuted due to lack of time," said the vice president and councilor responsible for the Planning and Project Coordination Unit, María Jesús Tovar.

Among the actions that will benefit from this extension is the improvement of the reclaimed water network for irrigation in Arrecife, a project that has a subsidy of 728,937.75 euros from the Cabildo and that is pending a new tender by the Arrecife City Council. In addition, within the 2022 Municipal Cooperation Plan in Arrecife, the renovation and modernization of public lighting in the Maneje neighborhood is included, with an investment of 606,075.24 euros and currently under execution.

Also contemplated are the rainwater works in the city, with two different lots: the first, awarded for 1,175,134.64 euros to the company Transportes y Excavaciones Tiagua S.L., is already under execution, while the second, which will alleviate the waters in the Puerto de Naos, is still pending tender.

In the municipality of Haría, the improvement and change of pavement and fencing of the court of the El Marinero de Punta Mujeres Sociocultural Center is extended, a work awarded to the company Construcciones Ajei S.L. and pending reception. The deadline for the construction of a playground in Tabayesco is also extended, a project that is still pending tender. As for San Bartolomé, the modernization of play areas in different parts of the municipality, the extension and renovation of the Local Police area and the drafting of the project for the construction of an underground parking in Plaza Santa Elena are included.

In Tinajo, the extension for the urbanization of the urban park in La Vegueta, awarded to Transportes y Excavaciones Tiagua, as well as the renovation of the sports court and the ball and paddle tennis courts in the El Calvario area, works awarded to Construcciones Sanabria, has been granted.

On the other hand, in Yaiza, the deadline for the execution of the municipal sports facility in Aulagar, Playa Blanca, a work awarded to Hormiconsa Canarias S.A., which is already under execution, is extended. In addition, the project for the implementation of a playground in the Colegio de Uga and another in the area of Femés Atrás, both awarded to HPC Ibérica S.A., will also benefit from this extension.
