Signing of the agreement between the Cabildo and the University of La Laguna

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and of the Board of Directors of the Tourist Centers, María Dolores Corujo, and the rector of the University of La Laguna, Rosa Aguilar, have signed a protocol agreement with the aim of strengthening the training contents and giving a boost to the César Manrique cultural chair that is taught at the university center in Tenerife.

“It is an act of social justice with a visionary, with someone ahead of his time whose thinking becomes even more relevant in these moments of uncertainty. This agreement brings us closer to the educational community and allows us to continue publicizing the figure, work and discourse of the genius among students to help build a better world,” Corujo said.

For her part, Rosa Aguilar highlighted the dimension of the artist: «César Manrique is so great that a group of students has recently asked us to name the Guajara Classroom after him». The rector, who was accompanied by the vice-rector of Culture and Social Participation, Juan Méndez, was “very grateful” to the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Tourist Centers for an agreement “that should serve to strengthen coordination and collaboration around the figure of the artist.”

The agreement signed this morning opens new avenues of collaboration between the First Institution of the island and the University of La Laguna to launch activities that promote critical reflection, study and dissemination of the multifaceted work of César Manrique. At the same time, it defines the coordination guidelines between both entities for the celebration of events related to the figure of the artist and establishes the appropriate framework for the teaching and technical staff of the University of La Laguna to make contacts and carry out procedures that contribute to referencing the human and artistic dimension of César Manrique.

A joint commission will be responsible for monitoring an agreement that lasts four years, and may be extended for another four by agreement between the parties.
