The Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands are committed to maintaining joint promotion strategies aimed at tourism

The Deputy Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ricardo Fernández de la Puente, held a meeting in Lanzarote with the Vice President and Insular Councilor for Tourism, Ástrid Pérez, in order to continue advancing in the planning of joint promotion strategies between both institutions. The meeting was also attended by the General Director of Planning and Tourism Promotion, Rita Hernández, the manager of Promotur, María Méndez, and the managing director of the Lanzarote Island Council's Tourism Board, Héctor Fernández Manchado.

During the meeting, the representatives of both institutions spoke about the importance of training and professionalization of the tourism sector in general, in order to improve the quality of services provided to tourists. Ástrid Pérez has opted to "optimize the economic resources that are allocated to the main activity and industry, such as tourism, making these resources profitable and working together on some promotional strategies."

This, for example, has been the case of the agreement signed between the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo and the tour operator Tui Sansail to promote nautical tourism. Thus, in the annual "Cowes Week" regatta, held last week on the Isle of Wight, in the United Kingdom, one of the boats promoted the Archipelago and came third overall, among a total of 600 boats.

Modernization plans

The Deputy Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands has also highlighted the modernization plans that are being carried out in Puerto del Carmen and Teguise, "as a clear example of the path to follow" and has valued the involvement of the institutions with the business sector of the island. In this sense, during Tuesday's meeting it was agreed to analyze some collaboration proposals of interest to Lanzarote and that may have an impact on the increase in the number of tourists visiting the island, with different tour operators.

Ricardo Fernández also recalled the good figures for the month of July and pointed out that "the Canary Islands recorded the second best result in its history with the arrival of 842,571 passengers from abroad".

As for Lanzarote, the Minister of Tourism pointed out that the island "received the visit of 154,875 foreign passengers in July, which translates into 14,796 more passengers than in July last year, with an increase of 10.56 percent." In the first seven months of the year, Lanzarote was visited by 997,436 foreign passengers, with an increase of 19.32 percent.

"We have to continue in this positive tone, although we must also bet on exploring other markets such as the Scandinavian, Polish and Russian markets, and even the Italian or French market where in general the island does not have too much presence", he pointed out.
