The Vice President and Minister of Public Works and Transport of the Government of the Canary Islands, Pablo Rodríguez, highlighted this Tuesday, in parliamentary session, that the Ministry he directs "has achieved, in just seven months, great progress in the execution of the works of the Playa Blanca port expansion project", highlighting the "good pace" of the works, and that "this year the necessary boxes will begin to be built in the port of Los Mármoles".

"One of the purposes of the Ministry has been and will be to unblock projects of vital importance, of great importance for the archipelago, as we achieved in less than a year with the expansion works of the port of Playa Blanca. And once the works have begun, the purpose is to carry them out at the best possible pace, an objective that we have also fulfilled," he said.

In this line, Pablo Rodríguez pointed out that "the expansion work of the port of Playa Blanca is being developed with total normality". "We are committed to the economic development of the south of Lanzarote and for this reason we have strived to ensure that the works evolve following the pertinent steps, taking into account that the execution period is 48 months. In this sense, we can say that the balance is positive," he said.

Works that have already been executed

The vice president explained that "the channeling of the Punta Limones ravine has already been carried out, in accordance with the Insular Water Council of Lanzarote", that "progress has been made with the breakwater on the slope that corresponds to the first alignment and that starts from land" and that "the esplanade gained from the sea has been expanded and the removal of the rockfill from the current dike has continued". In relation to the environmental control, Pablo Rodríguez stated that "every month the control of the environmental parameters defined in the Environmental Surveillance Plan is carried out, as well as the underwater monitoring of the state of the seagrass beds".

In the same way, the Minister of Public Works and Transport of the Government of the Canary Islands has detailed that another of the aspects addressed has been the beginning of the pending works to gain land from the sea and that the land has been prepared to begin the dumping of material, the front of the rockfill has been created to generate a platform and the same has been filled.

On the other hand, Pablo Rodríguez has announced that part of the rockfill of the existing dike has been removed. "This was a necessary intervention to prepare the land for the dumping of filling material, which, of course, has been subjected to the pertinent analyses and has been declared suitable for use in the work," he concluded.
