The BOC publishes the approval of the General Plan of Arrecife, opening the consultation and allegation phase

The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands publishes this Friday the initial approval of the Supplementary General Planning Plan of Arrecife. From this moment, a period of 45 days is opened, in order to offer its contents to the citizens and allow potential allegations to them. "It is in this period when urban decisions are opened to consensus and public opinion", said the mayor of Arrecife, Manuel Fajardo Feo, inviting "all the residents of the capital to present allegations."

In a parallel way, the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Territorial Policy of the Government of the Canary Islands has suspended the granting of licenses in the areas where modifications occur with the new planning, for a maximum period of two years.

As explained by the regional Executive, from the publication of the initial approval, "only projects adjusted to the regime in force at the time of their request may be processed and granted a license, provided that said regime has not been altered by the determinations proposed in the planning instrument under processing, or, having been altered, the determinations initially approved are less restrictive or limiting than those of the planning in force."

"A fundamental tool"

"When this government team took the reins of the Arrecife City Council, we committed ourselves to finishing what we started and we are doing it. The General Plan is not only one more of the many issues that we said we were going to carry out. It is, without a doubt, the most important of all. It is a fundamental tool, thanks to which many of the legal and economic problems that the City Council has had for decades will be solved", the mayor highlighted.

"The important thing now is that everyone knows the document and has the opportunity to present allegations", Fajardo emphasizes, who also points out that "the technicians, with total transparency, will answer all the allegations to later proceed to the final approval." Now, the capital's mayor is confident that this final approval will be a reality by the end of the year or in January 2015.

"Increase of free spaces" for different facilities

For his part, the first deputy mayor and head of Urban Planning, José Montelongo, highlighted "the increase in free spaces, which will allow the construction of public infrastructure, educational, health, sports and leisure facilities, as demanded by current neighborhood needs and the future demographic development of the city."

Likewise, he recalls that "the development of land plots will be through partial plans, for which building coefficients and corresponding uses have been given, and which must be promoted by the owners and approved by the City Council."

The Plan, of a Supplementary nature, does not intervene in detail in the planning nor does it enter into the details or particular issues, but rather "designs the bases of future development, orderly and with legal guarantees." For this reason, "and to guarantee greater agility of the procedure", the Consistory recalls that its processing does not contemplate the provisional approval phase.
