The Councillor for Health of the Arrecife City Council, Cathaysa Suárez, visited the San Román Cemetery this Monday, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor, Echedey Eugenio, to inspect the progress of the construction of the 64 new niches that are being built in the Arrecife municipal cemetery, which will help alleviate the problem of funerary space that the island's capital has.

This intervention coexists with the ambitious project to expand the grounds, designed to provide a structural response to a growing demand. The works, which will begin shortly, include the construction of 2,880 new niches on an adjacent plot of 5,578.48 m², a large-scale intervention valued at 2,111,790.71 euros (IGIC included) with an estimated execution period of eight months. The aim of this work is to ensure the capacity of the San Román cemetery until at least 2030.

During his visit, Suárez pointed out that "with these 64 new niches, we are providing an immediate solution, so that no one is left without space while we move forward with the larger expansion. We are guaranteeing service with dignity and planning."

Furthermore, the councilwoman wanted to emphasize the strategic nature of the project for Arrecife, stressing that "it is not just about covering a specific need, but about projecting the cemetery into the future, with structure, capacity, and respect for families."

Likewise, the councilor thanks the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Department of Employment, led by Jesús Machín, for the painting work, sidewalk repairs, and aesthetic improvements that are being carried out through the Employment plans, to clean up and improve the image of the premises.

This type of agreement allows unemployed people to participate in urban maintenance activities and strengthen municipal infrastructure.
