The Municipal Council transfers an octagonal warehouse, located next to the horse stable area, to the Federation of Agricultural and Fishing Associations Castillo de Teguise (FASAT). This space will serve as an area for livestock rearing, allowing milk production to be maintained on farms while the kids are fed and cared for with veterinary support.
This measure responds to a demand from the island's livestock sector, which has been pointing out the difficulties of farms in assuming the rearing process in their own facilities.
The mayoress, Olivia Duque, points out that "this action supports the continuity of an essential activity for the rural and economic development of the municipality, improving the conditions in which it is carried out, guaranteeing animal welfare with specialized veterinary care."
In addition, improvement actions will be carried out for the development of the municipal agrotechnological complex, with the subsidy of 40,000 euros granted by the Area of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
In that sense, the Councilor for Agriculture, Myriam Jorge, highlights that "these actions respond to the needs of professionals in the sector, providing the necessary resources to optimize their work and guaranteeing the continuity of a vital area for the local economy of Teguise."
Among the improvement actions that will be carried out, the waterproofing works of the agricultural warehouses stand out, including the repair of roofs and gutters, as well as the improvement of the irrigation system of the greenhouse that is used by the students of IES Teguise.
Finally, a water meter has been made available to FASAT so that both farmers and ranchers belonging to the Federation, without access to the irrigation network, can solve these problems, guaranteeing the efficient use of resources for agricultural activity in the municipality.
