The Teguise City Council has decided to replace the plants stolen from the green areas where, for a few weeks, several points of the municipality have been beautified with more than 2,000 units of the traditional Christmas poinsettia plant.
"Once again we have to regret that the tradition of decorating our public spaces with poinsettias is accompanied by these uncivil and sanctionable behaviors", lamented the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, after several days of thefts in the main garden areas of Teguise, where they have already been replaced by new plants, "which we hope will last at least until the end of the Christmas holidays", said the mayor, inviting the "friends of others' property to respect the furniture and elements that beautify our public spaces and that cost money to all taxpayers".
The Plaza de la Constitución of the Villa and its gardens, the main roundabouts of Tahíche or Costa Teguise, as well as the accesses to the towns of the municipality, have been showing off the first Christmas poinsettias since the beginning of December. "Thanks to the annual budget designated for these decorative elements to liven up these special dates, we have organized a poinsettia planting as attractive as possible despite the circumstances to welcome Christmas to those who visit Teguise and its residents," said Antonio Callero as head of the Gardens area. The councilor also recalled "the economic effort made by the local public administration to boost economic activity as much as possible in the main commercial areas".
