The Teguise City Council has taken stock of investment in contracting works, supplies and public services essential for "the proper functioning of municipal offices and the services offered to citizens", putting at approximately 8 million euros the total budget of contracts tendered since the beginning of the legislature, marked in this year by budget modifications caused by the global pandemic.

A list of resolved files that includes 3.4 million investment for works planned in 2019, some of which have had the collaboration of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, such as the future Civic Center of Costa Teguise and the Civic Center of Las Caletas, as well as the rehabilitation of the Castle of Santa Bárbara, or the repaving of the towns of the municipality and the modernization of cemeteries, among other actions to which must be added the expenditure on municipal supplies and services and a social health emergency item generated specifically to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

A total of 454 thousand euros that Teguise has allocated to food purchase cards for users of the municipality's Social Welfare, to medication collection services for food and adapted transfer of users to health centers, to the urgent acquisition of protection and signage material for the Local Police, to the supply of PPE for City Council staff and sanitary material for schools, to the placement of protective screens in public service posts, to the cleaning and disinfection of public spaces, as well as to adapt the administration to telematic management.

The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, has stressed that “despite the tax cuts and the halt in economic activity that has reduced public revenue, we have carried out many tendering procedures in order to continue offering all the municipal services required by a municipality as large as Teguise”.

“In addition to addressing the social emergency and implementing measures to deal with the health crisis, we are closing several contracting files and preparing a budget for 2021 that will allow us to continue with efficient management”, says Betancort, highlighting “the effort to reduce debt and the policy of his Government group when it comes to responding forcefully to the most vulnerable population, attending to the elderly, to the unemployed with the activation of three employment plans since the beginning of this crisis, which we will continue to promote despite the current conditions”.

“For her part, the head of the area, Olivia Duque, has assured that “before the end of the year other very important contracts that are already in the department will be launched, such as home help, the asphalt of Tahiche, the work of the old Tahiche school to turn it into a multipurpose center, conclude the Sociocultural Center of La Graciosa, among others”.
