The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, has held a meeting with representatives of the bicycle rental sector on the island of La Graciosa to establish the guidelines that should govern the regulation of the uses that can be made of the public domain of the eighth island by commercial activity, "which requires the relevant authorization, since it affects the public use of citizens in general."
"The City Council will analyze the requests of those interested in occupying certain spaces, with the aim of making the promotion and revitalization of commercial activity compatible with the use and enjoyment of the public space by residents, always respecting the general interests represented by the well-being of citizens and the environmental protection of the landscape," said Oswaldo Betancort.
"This is about activating regulatory mechanisms in the face of the growing demand from companies that offer bicycle rental services to tourists visiting La Graciosa," added the mayor, who believes "that special sensitivity must be given to land occupation regulations on an island that enjoys protection, and that precisely because of this uniqueness, it must be perfectly combined with tourist exploitation,"
Alicia Páez, as councilor delegate of La Graciosa, and Olivia Duque, as head of the Technical Office and Classified Activities, responded to the doubts that arose during the meeting that took place in Caleta de Sebo, and explained the administrative procedures that each of those interested in formalizing the use of areas to be occupied must follow, the space of which will be delimited according to the criteria to which the use of land in the municipal public domain and private domain for public use must be subjected through temporary occupation.
