Teguise merchants join the request of street vendors and demand the closure of the "private and illegal market"

First, the members of the Lanzarote Vendors Platform presented signatures to the City Council demanding the closure of the private market that opened its doors in Teguise. Now, the merchants of the municipality have also joined, who have shown their "concern" about this "illegal" market.

This Monday, a representative of the merchants of La Villa has submitted to the City Council the signatures of bars, restaurants and shops against the "illegal private market" of Teguise, thus supporting the platform of street vendors, who are being "very affected". The merchants have recalled that this "illegal" market has been open since July, "every Sunday and without permission or license".

Despite this, it sells "food, drinks" and houses "more than 65 stalls selling various items", on land that merchants say is classified as "socio-cultural use". In the document submitted to the City Council, they have expressed their concern about this "unfair competition from an illegal private market within a municipal market".
