The Technical Office of the Teguise City Council has issued a legal report that responds to the request for a building permit for the execution of a project to partially renovate premises in common areas of the Meliá Salinas Hotel.
The Consistory points out that after resolving all the requirements and authorization reports from the competent administrations, including the Heritage Service of the Island Council of Lanzarote, the City Council has resolved to "authorize the execution of the reform that will modernize the facilities of the emblematic hotel, located on Islas Canarias Avenue in Costa Teguise".
"It is good news for Costa Teguise that one of its flagship tourist accommodation establishments is modernizing and undertaking a new reform that will make it an even more attractive hotel and raise the prestige of one of the most competitive tourist destinations in Lanzarote," said the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort.
With the category of 5-star luxury, 282 accommodation units and 603 places, the Meliá Salinas Hotel will carry out a reform of the current area of offices and adjoining service premises, destined for a new SPA area, massage rooms and hairdressing salon, as well as the reform of the current area of hairdressing, treatments and massage rooms, to house a new area of commercial administration offices. In addition, there will also be a reform of the current area of events and convention rooms, which will become a new "The Level" room, and renovation of meeting and convention rooms, as well as the interior reform of large suite type rooms, and maintenance and restoration work on concrete elements and carpentry of the hotel.
The City Council points out that these works "do not involve a greater number of accommodation units nor, therefore, an increase in the number of existing places that alter the load capacity of the plot".
In addition to this investment, which the Consistory points out is around 3 million euros, the hotel management points out that it is also planned to "redecorate the 272 rooms that house what was inaugurated as the first five-star resort in Lanzarote in 1977, being a reference on the island for luxury establishments".
