The Official Gazette of Las Palmas publishes this Wednesday the announcement by which the Teguise City Council announces aid for the transport of students residing in the municipality for the 2020-2021 school year, whose bases are available on the official website.

“We have increased the budget item allocated to Education for another year so that the largest possible number of students from Teguise who are studying, both inside and outside the island, can afford the travel, or at least contribute to transportation costs, now with more reason and effort than ever, due to the economic circumstances derived from the health crisis we are suffering and which has affected so many families,” said the mayor, Oswaldo Betancort, who has "recognized" the work of his Government team and municipal staff since “Teguise has once again been the first municipality on the island, and even in all of the Canary Islands, to move forward with the call for aid to students.”

From October 29 to December 28, those interested can apply for transport assistance for a single amount of up to 150 euros (if they study within the island); 400 euros (rest of the Canary Islands); 500 euros (in the Peninsula) and 800 euros (abroad). The beneficiary, at the time of submitting the application, must be registered in the municipality of Teguise, with at least one year of seniority.

Likewise, the extract of the call for a total of 33,600 euros in subsidies has been published, whose beneficiaries are the educational centers that teach Early Childhood and Primary Education, and Compulsory Secondary Education, authorized and supported with public funds from the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands located in the municipal district of Teguise; and 14,400 euros for the Associations of parents of students from these centers. The purpose of these aids, which amount to a total of 48,000 euros, are the complementary and extracurricular educational activities carried out by the educational centers of Teguise and their Ampas, “in addition to serving as support for the extraordinary measures that have had to be implemented in times of Covid all members of the community in such a complicated start to the course, in which they have demonstrated true vocation and professionalism”, valued the councilor of the area.

Javier Díaz has made himself available to families “to clarify possible doubts about the application procedure for these aids”, and has thanked “the diligence that the technical team of Education of the City Council has once again demonstrated, without which Teguise could not take out in a timely manner, and always in the current course, these aids and subsidies so demanded”.
