Teguise and the Government of the Canary Islands meet to address different initiatives for youth

At the meeting, projects such as 'Horizonte Canarias' were discussed, an initiative promoted by the regional Government that started last Thursday in La Graciosa and which promotes a healthy lifestyle among Canarian youth

The Teguise City Council recently held a working meeting with officials from the Youth area of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Lanzarote with the aim of continuing to strengthen institutional collaboration in the development of policies aimed at youth of the municipality.

Participating in the meeting were the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque; the counselor of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood and Families of the Government of the Canary Islands, Candelaria Delgado; the counselor of Youth of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Aroa Revelo; the general director of Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands, Daniel Morales; and the councilor of Youth of the Teguise City Council, Andoni Machín.

During the meeting different initiatives and lines of joint work were addressed, among them the project Horizonte Canarias, an initiative promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands that started last Thursday in La Graciosa and that promotes a healthy lifestyle among Canarian youth.

The program proposes spaces for encounter and coexistence for young people, combining sports activities, nutritional advice, training talks and participation dynamics, with the aim of fostering healthy habits and contributing to the personal development of the participants. The initiative also seeks to generate a positive change in the lifestyle of youth and promote values that endure over time.

Likewise, during the meeting other matters related to youth policies were also discussed of the municipality, highlighting the collaboration that the Government of the Canary Islands maintains with the Teguise City Council in different events and activities aimed at young people.

Among the projects that are being advanced is also the drafting of the project for the future Youth House of Costa Teguise, an infrastructure that will allow to expand the spaces for participation, training, and leisure for the youth of the municipality.

The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, highlighted "the importance of continuing to strengthen cooperation between administrations to promote initiatives aimed at the municipality's youth and thanked the collaboration of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Lanzarote in projects that contribute to the development of new opportunities for young people." In this regard, she underlined the relevance of initiatives such as Horizonte Canarias, which has already begun in La Graciosa, as well as the progress in the future Youth House of Costa Teguise, an infrastructure that will allow expanding spaces for meeting, training, and participation for the youth of Teguise.

For her part, the Minister of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood and Families of the Government of the Canary Islands, Candelaria Delgado, reaffirmed "the commitment of the regional Executive to this type of initiatives and pointed out that the Government of the Canary Islands will continue collaborating with the Teguise City Council to promote projects that encourage youth participation and promote healthy lifestyle habits among the youth of the archipelago".

Along the same lines, the general director of Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands, Daniel Morales, explained that Horizonte Canarias “is born with the vocation of becoming a meeting space for Canarian youth, promoting a healthy lifestyle through sport, training, nutritional advice and coexistence activities that favor personal growth and teamwork.”

With this meeting, the Teguise City Council "continues to advance in its commitment to the development of policies that promote the participation, training, and well-being of the municipality's youth".
