Taxi drivers ask the Arrecife City Council for more inspections and sanctions for non-compliance with uniform, cleanliness or work shifts

The Arrecife Civic Center hosted a meeting of the municipality's taxi sector on Tuesday, convened by the Councilor for Transportation of the capital's City Council, Víctor Sanginés, and the "San Marcial" cooperative. Nearly 80 professionals, including drivers and license holders, attended the meeting to learn about the municipal proposals and share their demands and concerns, according to a statement from the City Council.

To expand on this type of meeting and formalize its conclusions, the two parties agreed to create a working group, which "will allow consensus on decisions made regarding public transport and promote the modernization and improvement of the regulations," according to the same sources.

The group has requested the increase of inspections and the imposition of corresponding penalties, in case of non-compliance with the regulations, in matters such as uniform, vehicle cleanliness, documentation and work shifts. Another issue under debate is the transfer and organization of some problematic stops, such as those located at the Los Mármoles dock, Ginory and the Molina Orosa Hospital.

The Councilor for Transportation, Víctor Sanginés, has expressed being "very satisfied" with the outcome of the meeting. "Despite the fact that the taxi sector is going through very difficult times, the truth is that it is a supportive and constructive group, which seeks to improve both its own benefit and that of the traveler and the image of the city," said the councilor.
