The XII Congress of the PP of the Canary Islands re-elected José Manuel Soria as president of the Canary Islands 'populars' this Saturday with 94.6 percent support, as confirmed by the president of the PP of the Canary Islands convention, Gabriel Mato.
Soria thus faces his fourth term at the head of the presidency of the Canary Islands PP, a position he acceded to at the end of 1999 after the resignation of the then president José Miguel Bravo de Laguna. In November 2004, Soria revalidated his leadership at the head of the Canary Islands 'populars', in the congressional meeting held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in which he obtained the support of more than 96 percent of the delegates.
The candidate for the presidency of the Popular Party, José Manuel Soria, proposed in his speech prior to the election, for his formation an "integral and honest" project far from the "outdated and resentful" ideology of the Socialist Party, as he explained in his speech this Saturday.
Soria presented a project that prepares his organization to win "and for that we must learn from the mistakes of the past." The current president of the PP reminded his colleagues that there are many reasons why they have not won the elections in many places in the Canary Islands "but none has to do with the ideas we defend because the best proof is that of the fresh ideas in all the subjects presented today in the papers." "I am not here to offer changes of ideas but to offer a work agenda for the Party that contains projects, structure and leadership," he asserted.
José Manuel Soria has proposed a project "far from the outdated and resentful ideology of the PSOE that is based on outdated dogmas, childish prejudices and old ideas that consider the citizens of the Canary Islands as minors, with easy and empty verbosity."
The candidate for the presidency of the PP in the Canary Islands lashed out against the Socialist Party because its "infinite arrogance made it impossible for the one who had won to govern in the Canary Islands."
This is why he is betting on a "serious project, with clear ideas and that recognizes the seriousness of the economic situation that we feel as our own and personal problem." The current president of the PP recalled that the current economic situation "is not a succession of cold data, because behind each worker who goes to unemployment there is a family history, and behind each businessman who is not renewed his credit there is a situation of anguish."
To solve it, Soria reviewed the measures promoted by his party in the Canary Islands, such as the application of tax cuts, the abolition of the inheritance tax and the return of 30 percent of professional diesel, among others.
José Manuel Soria stated that he is running for the presidency "freely and voluntarily because I have a lot to contribute and a lot to do." The 'popular' leader intends to surround himself with a team that defends the ideas, principles and values of his party in every corner of the Canary Islands, taking into account that they will have to work "Saturdays, Sundays and holidays."
He asked his new team for "loyalty, which consists of saying what they think even if it does not coincide with what the other thinks, without offending and where it has to be said, in the respective bodies of the party."
Regarding the economic commitment, Soria assured that for next year his party has prepared "austere" general budgets in which "the salaries of all senior officials, the management staff of public companies and the trusted personnel of the Community are frozen, in which only investment expenses and those of the government's priority policies such as health, education and those of a clear social nature will increase. A budget that will be applied in the most adverse of the economic scenarios that are remembered in the Canary Islands in recent decades.
José Manuel Soria proposed to the Congress "a strong, clear structure with a vocation to work tirelessly; in which it is not just one who has to be at the same time, taking the corner and finishing." For this he has counted on the three deputy secretaries Ángel Llanos, Asier Antona and Mercedes Roldós.
The current president of the PP stated that he is not going to admit "that those who have the most responsibilities are the ones who put the most excuses when it comes to fulfilling their organic obligations. He also proposes greater citizen participation in the party of associations, social movements and List of members of the Executive Committee, Regional Board of Directors and Organic Positions of the PP of the Canary Islands
