The spokesperson for Somos Lanzarote, Paula Corujo, has stated that her party will begin meetings this Tuesday to "take a position" regarding the breakdown of the agreement in the Arrecife City Council and the Cabildo of Lanzarote. However, she acknowledges that the current configuration of the government "does not correspond to the agreement signed in 2019", as she stated on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero. Thus leaving the door open for councilor Eli Merino to leave the Arrecife government group.
Paula Corujo has maintained, as a "personal opinion", that the situation in the Arrecife government "also does not correspond to the political coordinates" that Somos has maintained. "In 2019 we signed a somewhat unnatural agreement for Somos, and with a clear and necessary objective, which was the core of our electoral program and our electoral commitment," said the councilor, who added that "it is necessary to analyze if the situation corresponds to that and take a position."
In relation to the situation of her colleague Eli Merino, who has remained in the government group along with Ástrid Pérez, Corujo acknowledges that she "has maintained contact" with the councilor, although she states that she prefers to "reserve the content of those meetings" until the party meeting is held.
However, Corujo has expressed the "discomfort" that the breakdown of the government agreement entails, "especially when we are beginning to face a recovery from an unprecedented crisis that has been historically, touristically and economically speaking, after which Lanzarote cannot afford to experience stoppages and fluctuations in the management that we are experiencing right now", added the councilor.
Paula Corujo has also acknowledged that the organic activity of the party "has been decreasing", and that Somos has focused "on institutional representation and institutional work". However, the councilor assures that this little activity does not "exempt us from having to fulfill the responsibility of having representation currently".
