Somos Lanzarote, through its spokesperson and councilor in the San Bartolomé City Council, Paula Corujo, will request in the plenary session this Monday that a study be carried out on the commercial impact after the closure of Calle Mayor in Playa Honda.
The island formation denounces that "after the semi-pedestrianization, carried out within the Program to Promote Open Commercial Areas in the Canary Islands, carried out in the period 2010-2014, the closure of several businesses has occurred in the commercial area and the measures carried out by the government group to boost commercial activity in the area have been scarce and late."
Likewise, Somos indicates having denounced on other occasions "that not enough effort has been made to provide this semi-pedestrian space with elements that allow optimal and quality enjoyment of the area that invite people to transit it. Currently there is a total lack of shade spaces and rest areas and even the pedestrian and vehicle transit area is not properly signposted, often generating unsafe situations for pedestrians."
"The PSOE has experience in other municipalities such as Arrecife in starting pedestrianization projects that could be successful with the necessary measures to promote them but end up failing due to political incapacity. We ask that this does not happen in San Bartolomé and that a diagnosis be carried out to determine how the semi-pedestrianization of Calle Mayor has affected and provide quantitative and qualitative information on the impacts on production, employment, tax collection or the environment", says Paula Corujo.
